Answer: Introducation From the novel Withering Heights composed by Emily Bronte, Newman Beth investigates the possibility that illustrations and visual acts can be unmistakably appeared. The paper begins by a contention on the significance of look and visual analogies against the peruser (Flood, Heath and Lapp). Newman over and again interfaces visual acts and portrayals, for instance when Emily utilizes visuals by introducing journal sections that references completely people melodies. The creator has foreseen the post Jamesian pre occupation with visual phrasing. Newman contends further that the look raises the significance of woman's rights critism (Bronte? 2012). Another way that visual demonstrations are utilized in the novel is when Lockwood ( a character in the novel) describes of him meeting a lady who is exceptionally coy and the womans look filled him with dread and that she was a genuine goddess. Another scene that delineates a visual demonstrations is the point at which the Author portrays Loc kwoods dread of the arrival of the look from the lady who she depicts as a genuine goddess. Lockwood portrays that if looks had language the merest dolt would tell that he was head over ears(p.15). Newman contends that in the subject of the look , the lady is missing with the exception of when she sees herself seeing herself (Bronte?, Donnelly and Plaisted 2007). As indicated by Newman, a feeling of interest is made when Lockwood utilizes expressions of like goddess to portray the lady he met. The look goes about as a wellspring of joy from Lockwood as indicated by Newman (Bronte?, Donnelly and Plaisted 2007). Jacques Lacans courses with respect to look may show the association between emasculation tension and the returning female look not exclusively to Lockwoods reaction to his goddess. Jacquez declarations are that the scopic drive is the thing that escapes the term maiming. There is a spectator , in the wuthering statures novel and her name is Nelly Deen who watches for mens sake while looking to remain outside of the circles of want (Bront). Newman additionally makes accentuation that the novel sexual orientation look in which female characters are seen as subjects. The common capacities if Heathcliff, love for Catherine and quality of character is the thing that empowers him to ascend from an unassuming beginnings to a man of impact, this is one of the investigation in which Newman catches the hypothetical plot of the novel. He likewise contends that the inclination to vindicate himself for catherines treachery is the thing that made him have a slanted existence of contempt and brutality. Newman likewise portrays another visual demonstration in Wuthering statures as when Catherine has put on a memento that contains Edgars hair and in the wake of seeing the dead Catherine, Heathcliff expels it and hurls it on the ground and replaces it with his hair(Bronte?, Donnelly and Plaisted 2007).. This looks to envision to the peruser that Edgar accepts that Catherine is his. Nelly takes Edgars hair lock, and interlaces it with a lock of hair from Heathcliffs and places it into the memento. This shows the lives of the two foe are interlaced. Newman expres ses that that visual allegories are significant, the visual analogies speak to the psychosexual relations file that comprise the common family(Bronte?, Donnelly and Plaisted 2007). She likewise insinuates the way that the visual underpinnings of the novel copy looking structures that work generally to the detriment of ladies. References Bronte?, Emily. 2012.Wuthering Heights. Research Methodology Human Health and Life

Question: Depict about the Research Methodology for Human Health and Life. Answer: Presentation It is imperative for the social insurance suppliers to protect human wellbeing and life. Nonetheless, passing is unavoidable. The job of the medicinal services suppliers doesn't end rather is altered in circumstance where the patient recuperation is miserable. Pioneers, for example, Raymond Moody and Elisabeth Kubler-Ross in the west have tended to the subject of death and kicking the bucket (Abolfathi et al., 2012). Their work indicated that the medical attendants can guarantee a serene passing to the patient with unlimited love and illuminated demeanor towards their calling (Lovering, 2012). The clinical experts need great comprehension of the patient who is toward the finish of life care from mental, social, social, clinical, and otherworldly perspective (Arritt, 2014). The finish of life encounters is all inclusive. Nonetheless, the conduct related with pain or mourning are socially bound. In this world, various nations have social orders that have become a rich blend of religion s, societies and ethnicities. Various societies have created various approaches to adapt until the very end and sadness which are the ordinary life occasions (Galanti, 2014). Meddling with these particular social perspectives towards death may hamper a people capacity to adapt up to the lamenting procedure. It is hard for the social insurance suppliers to know and comprehend the grieving functions and traditionsof every single culture. In any case, increasing a fundamental idea of how various societies plan or react to death is basic for the consideration suppliers. So as to convey individualized, quiet focused consideration attendants need a socially differing information base (Qureshi, 2012). There are different nations on the planet, for example, Malaysia, India, Nigeria and others, which suits various beliefs. Hence, the social insurance suppliers not just need to know the strict and social convictions of the patient yet additionally the basis supporting them as it my incredibly impact the consideration plan of the patient (Velayudhan, 2012). The paper especially centers around the social perspectives of Hindus, Muslims, and Christians towards death in Malaysia. Social mentality of Muslims towards death in Malaysia and its effect on nursing calling When thinking about the Muslim patients, the components that impact the nursing practice are Muslims conviction, confidence and inclinations during the withering procedure. Medical attendants need to deal with issue, for example, to guarantee there is somebody with the patient to provoke Shahadah (Arritt, 2014). It implies taking the stand Allah is genuine God and Muhammad is his hireling. Medical attendants need to know about significance of Quran and guarantee the patient with an individual to present the sections of the blessed book at the next to. Most significant test for the medical caretakers is to devise a consideration plan for Muslim licenses in the heavenly month of Ramadan, which is the fasting month. It is profoundly trying for medical attendants to think about diabetes patients in this month and consequently they may devise sustenance plan that doesn't bargain the wellbeing (Velayudhan, 2012). As per Lovering (2012) numerous Muslims and the medicinal services suppliers in Malaysia don't perceive the significance of the great passing. In view of Islamic point of view it is clarified that the human pride and protection are regarded and each on is treated as basic mainstay of Shari'a. Muslims exceptionally esteem the otherworldly and passionate help. The medical attendants subsequently should address the consideration needs expected of them since Muslims value the significance of the entrance to the required otherworldly or passionate help. Keeping away from this factor which are pivotal for Muslims may make disappointment among the patients and lead to loss of trust in the social insurance suppliers. It is testing and upsetting for the social insurance group to fulfilled explicit needs of Muslims, for example, care from same sex guardian. In this manner, medical caretakers must guarantee male or female guardian to respect their solicitation. Medical caretakers must be exceptionally cautious with regards to reaching patient of other gender regardless of whether it is matter of looking or shaking hands specific when managing the perceptive Muslims (Qureshi, 2012). The extra weight of cost on the human services group is because of arrangement of discrete space for their ceremonies. The attentive Muslims like to offer petitions five times each day and wash previously, after dinners, and before supplications. In this manner, the social insurance group must be tenacious in helping the patients to meet their profound needs. The group must guarantee that of the strategies meddle with neither the medicines nor organization of drug. As indicated by Farooqui et al. (2012) the Muslim patient s may deny drug containing pork items, gelatine, or liquor. It is unpredictable errand for the attendants and doctors to give complete honesty of prescriptions containing these fixings in order to help patients in settling on educated choice. Rassool, (2014) featured that a great many people need a command over torment and others upsetting manifestations. Nonetheless, the Muslims patients see languishing as a discipline over ones sins. This conviction and translation inspires the patient and the families to adapt up to the illness. Harford and Aljawi (2013) contended that it doesn't disparage the reality the enduring ought to be diminished by putting forth each and every attempt. It is a typical reason for distress for the attendants in Malaysia to persuade the Muslim patient to take-up an agony the executives. The patients deny the torment medicine as they foresee that by enduring more and indicating high patient, they will get more rewards structure Allah and achieve greater immaculateness. This leads attendants into situation as they need to regard the patients wishes to acknowledge or decline the clinical mediation. Most medical caretakers treating the Muslim patients face this difficulty inspite of the consolation fr om Islamism to look for treatment. It significantly impacts the nursing care plan as attendants experience mental clash with the good and the moral situations (Lovering, 2012). The examination executed by Al-Jahdali et al., (2013) talked about that lion's share of the Muslim members want to give advance mandates. It is the way to acknowledge or reject clinical mediation. Be that as it may, some clinical staff don't know about this inclination. Be that as it may, this framework is underused in the few clinics. It is recommended for clinics to receive the framework off development mandates as it is broadly acknowledged by the Muslims. It is a typical practice in the Islamic and Arabic social orders to contact the friends and family and family members before death of an individual. In any case, a doctor or an attendant are to be given this proposal when demise of a patient is unavoidable or is going to take a final gasp. This standard practice is seen in west and now and again the medicinal services suppliers are required to exhibit significant level of affectability especially when the guests are surpassing the measure of room accessible. Rassool (2014) depicted that the Muslims don't believe their life to be inconsequential regardless of colossal misery. This is as opposed to most patients who pick to stop their life as opposed to drawing out with cutting edge innovation absurdly. The Muslims have confidence in a definitive insight of Allah in any event, when perpetrated with genuine turmoil and will in general pull back from life continuing treatment. It accentuates the clinical experts to be straightforward with the patient explicitly about the visualization, and the subtleties and clarifications identified with the Do Not Resuscitate orders. It might offer consolation to the patients and help them to feel progressively great that the mediation won't be useless. Numerous Muslims see that the hour of death is just known to Allah. In any case, Al-Jahdali et al. (2013) that numerous Muslims want to realize how close to the demise is with the goal that they can apologize for their wrongdoings and look for pardoning. Th e medical attendants and the doctors in this circumstance are required to give less complete responses to the patient and the family. The test for the attendants is to assemble acceptable compatibility with the patient and family. Most patients like to bite the dust in a sacred spot like Makkah or Mosque when given a decision. Medical caretakers must regard the patients wishes. Attendants are mentioned by numerous patients to convince their family for conceding their desire. At this stage the medical caretakers must be straightforward and open with them in regards to the consideration objectives. This dispenses with the worry among the medical attendants and the relatives as they don't need to feel remorseful to let patients cease to exist of the emergency clinic (Galanti, 2014). Muslims pay incredible significance to the appearance and cleanliness. They have severe standards identified with confidence and self-perception. Muslims faith in having great picture in eyes of companions and family members and will in general stay away from deformations, posthumous mutilations, awful smells, septic injury, by looking after self control. They want to keep up tidiness, for example, having clean garments, liberated from pee, regurgitation, stool, and need the social insurance suppliers to cause their body to seem ordinary after death (Harford Aljawi, 2013). It is upsetting for medicinal services suppliers as they have to take extra mind keeping these variables in see. Attendants may invest additional energy to fulfill these needs of patients and especially give more consideration to appearance and cleanliness. It makes extra weight as they may need to shower the patient more than the suggested occasions. To diminish the posthumous distortion the human services supplie rs must perform eye shutting and jaw obsession promptly at the hour of death (Abolfathi et al., 2012). These practices may influence different patients in the ward and subsequently medical caretakers may guarantee them that it is basic for all the Muslim patients in the emergency clinic. The human services suppliers must be specific with respect to ceremonies of washing, covering, and burial service supplications. Entombment procedure ought to be followed at the earliest opportunity. The significant job for the human services group at this stage is auspicious documentation to forestall delay in memorial service functions (Rassool, 2014). During the hour of death, medical attendants must be profoundly

Male Dominance free essay sample

We live in a keeps an eye on world. Male commanded and controlled social orders. It may be the case that it has been a social convention, the man was given an all the more impressive and powerful job in the network than ladies and it requires some investment for customs to wear out. Or on the other hand it could be the topic of sex inclination, the conviction that man is more grounded and more shrewd, along these lines the conspicuous decision for a pioneer. In â€Å"Girls at War† by Chinua Achebe and â€Å"The Collector of Treasures† by Bessie Head, the dangerous idea of a male centric culture is investigated through the account voice and the utilization of incongruity. In â€Å"Girls at War†, Achebe utilizes a third-individual and heterodiegetic storyteller. However, the voice is from a male point of view. The account centers around the character Reginald Nwankwo and his musings and activities. This point of view doesnt straightforwardly tell about the damage of male strength, rather it is dependent upon the peruser to decipher the content and notice the destructions. We will compose a custom paper test on Male Dominance or on the other hand any comparable theme explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page Reginald Nwankwo thinks about female association in the war to kids professing to be warriors. â€Å"He didnt question that the young ladies and ladies paid attention to themselves, they clearly did. In any case, so did the little children who walked here and there the boulevards at the time boring with sticks and wearing their moms soup bowls for steel protective caps. † (2-3). The ladies in this story are censured by the men for being straightforward and for being what men have made them into, for their own pleasure. Nwankwo plainly shows his uncertainty around there when he muses that, â€Å"He may very well too laid down with a whore It was clear as sunshine to him since she was kept by some military official. What a horrendous change † (9). He thinks about the issue without the understanding his part in it. The issues with male controlled society are unmistakably talked about in Bessie Heads, â€Å"The Collector of Treasures†. This short story is likewise from a third-individual, heterodiegetic point of view, yet the account voice is female and straightforwardly defies the issue. The character, Dikeledi, voices her conclusion about the sort of male that spins out of control in their general public. One that, â€Å"created such wretchedness and disarray that he could be comprehensively cursed as evil† (162). Dikeledis spouse Garesego Mokopi is an ideal model a maltreatment of intensity and control. He doesnt care for his significant other yet cant handle the idea, â€Å"that another man had a stake in his hen-pen† (169), when he discovers that Dikeledis neighbor, Paul, has been exchanging family unit merchandise for her administrations, just accepting that Paul would just do as such, â€Å"for ladies they fuck† (169). These accounts are the two instances of how a male commanded relationship or society dismisses the necessities of the ladies. Incongruity is utilized lavishly in both, â€Å"The Collector of Treasures† by Bessie Head and â€Å"Girls at War† by Chinua Achebe, to uncover the issues that emerge in a male overwhelmed society. In â€Å"Girls at War†, ironicly Nwankwo is the one to make due toward the end while Gladys is executed. Being a pioneer Nwankwo just attempted to ensure himself, while Gladys bravely attempted to spare the youngster officer. There is a plenitude of incongruity in the way that Nwankwo transparently scrutinizes young ladies and their looking for, â€Å"shoes, wigs, pants, bras, beautifying agents and what have you †(7), yet it is actually what he anticipates that ladies should do. He needs Gladys to become, â€Å"the young lady in khaki pants that looked through him at the checkpoint..â † (7), yet when he sees her made up in a, â€Å"high-tinted wig and an over the top expensive skirt and a low profile shirt. † (4), he considers her a, â€Å"beauty queen† (4). The situational incongruity in, â€Å"The Collector of Treasures†, is obviously appeared through how Dikeledi, â€Å"found gold in the midst of the ash† (161) and opportunity in jail however when she was legitimately free she felt limited by her better half, Garesego. In jail, she is not, at this point a captive to men, rather, â€Å"male detainees gave every lady a plate of porridge and a cup of dark teaâ † (159), getting served by men. All in all, the threats of male strength are plainly represented in Bessie Heads, â€Å"The Collector of Treasures† and Chinua Achebes, â€Å"Girls at War†, using the story voice and incongruity. The two writings show the disappointment of the two people in a male centric culture and the breakdown of relationship it carries with it. The battle for equity, love and reason for existing is plainly appeared through the ladies in the accounts, while the men are appeared as narrow minded and shallow in their predominance.

Or stand like them in front of a class of soon-to-be college graduates delivering a commencement speech. (Their speeches were cool so click on the links to hear them.) But I’ve earned some street cred from decades of life and I think I’ve got some things to share, even sans celebrity status. So if I were standing on a stage delivering my thoughts to this years graduating class on graduation day, here’s what I’d say. My Commencement Speech Class, you are in this moment standing at the crucible of BEFORE and AFTER. You are on that edge, that exhilarating edge where excitement and fear and the unknown intersect. Breathe. You stand in a tiny portal in time where you are both safe and limitless and in a space that is more special than you know. This is what grace feels like. In just a short time you will march out of here with your dreams and diplomas in hand thinking you’re finished with school. Let me assure you, earth school has much more to teach you. Here are eight lessons, some based onTaoism principles that I want to share with you. These are lessons I’ve learned from master teachers†¦oh hell, let’s just say I’m still learning. I hope they serve you well. 8 Pieces of Real People Advice For Graduates 1. Look beyond the mirror.Learn about a world bigger than yourself, a world beyond social media and status updates. It exists.Be a student of life†¦your entire life. Be open to other cultures; open your eyes to what is going on in the world around you. Work harder to notice life than to have life notice you. 2. Be teachable. You can’t know what you don’t know until you know. Are you with me? Everyone can be your teacher. The clerk at the grocery store. Your co-worker, your new boss. The janitor in your building. Everyone has lessons to teach us in grace, compassion, strength, integrity. Watch and learn. Not all lessons come from books. 3. Be discerning. Learn to discern your truth†¦and not what the media, or even your teachers or parents think it is. Don’t let them herd your thinking. Investigate, ask questions, and be open to the possibility that there is a difference between what someone perceives as true†¦and what is truth. 4. Stay curious.A curious mind is never bored and can be the most creative asset in your arsenal . . .or for that matter, your backpack or briefcase. Follow your curiosity because it will likely lead you to somethingmore†¦and something moreusually leads to discovery. And discovery leads to adventure . . .and adventure leads to opportunity. Follow that thread, students.Follow that thread. 5. Collaborate.Darwinism will not serve you in this new world order.Cooperation and collaboration are key to survival nowand inevery aspect of life. Relationships are central to a balanced life so learn to co-operate, to collaborate in your job, in your partnerships, in your communities. 6. Know that you matter not, and that you matter more than you know. This is a lesson in duality. It is about knowing that life has its own rhythm, up and down, and things happen, life happens, no matter your best intentions. It’s important to know during times of challengethat sometimes bad things happen and it’s not personal, it’s just life playing out, running its course. And the other side of that is this: you have the ability to make a difference in someone’s life in any moment. That difference of a few kind words, a coin to a homeless person, will always matter more than you know. 7. Walk away from the spectacles of life. There will be times in your life, in your career, in your own personal circles where dramas of all sorts will entice you. Don’t be seduced. Protect your spirit, protect your integrity, protect your energy. Because these things—your spirit, your integrity, your energy– are important tools you’ll carry with you through times of goodness and upheaval and through times of abundance and lack. 8. Know your nature. Why be a lion, fierce and ferocious, if you’re really a lamb? Each has its own form of power and strengththat can be used to maneuver one through life. So be true to your nature and use the gifts of your own divine nature to build a lovely, prosperous, meaningfullife. I’m no rock star, comedian, or enlightened Buddha, but these eight teachings have the potential to change the arc of your world, maybe even the trajectory of your life. And I hope they do.

Defining Monologophobia

Early last century, Henry and Francis Fowler coined the phrase elegant variation to refer to needless substitutions of one word for another for the sake of variety (The Kings English, 1906). Given a choice between monotonous repetition on the one hand and clumsy variation on the other, were advised to prefer the natural . . . to the artificial. In other words, to ensure that our writing is clear and direct, we shouldnt be afraid to repeat words. Similar advice was offered decades later by New York Times editor Theodore M. Bernstein, who coined his own terms for the fear of repetition and the excessive use of distracting synonyms: Monologophobia Definition: An overwhelming fear of using a word more than once in a single sentence, or even in a single paragraph. Etiology: As a child the patient was probably compelled to stand in a corner because he wrote, in a composition: Grandma gave me a piece of apple pie, then I had another piece of apple pie and then I had another piece of apple pie. Symptoms: The patient now writes: The wife gave me a piece of apple pie, then I obtained another slice of the pastry containing the round fleshy fruit, and then I secured another portion of the all-American dessert. As is evident, monologophobia is usually accompanied by synonymomania. Treatment: Gently suggest to the patient that repetition is not necessarily fatal, but that if it is an intrusive manifestation, the corrective is not a conspicuous synonym but rather an inconspicuous pronoun or noun: another, a second, a third one.(Miss Thistlebottoms Hobgoblins, Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1971) A monologophobe, Harold Evans has said, would edit the Bible to read, Let there be light and there was solar illumination (Essential English, 2000). Needless repetition is often just clutter that can be readily avoided without indulging in synonymomania. But not all repetition is bad. Used skillfully and selectively, the repetition of keywords in a paragraph can help to hold sentences together and focus the readers attention on a central idea.

Leadership Styles Effective Leadership - 840 Words

This short paper examines effective leadership. Effective leadership may be outlined in many ways. Although exposed to several different leadership styles, I find that I respond best to a leader who believes in the works and theories of Confucius. According to McMahon, the Confucian leadership system believes that leadership is an emergent quality of the character that radiates and makes others want to follow, based on the respect and trust the leader generates (McMahon, 2010). I believe the new president at the law school in which I am employed, exemplifies and leads the institution under these same philosophies. Conscientiously or not, the new president works and follows the Confucian path of leadership. Recently, a new president was appointed at my place of employment. As a direct report to the president, I am charged with the responsibility of the overall enrollment in the institution. Nationally, law school applications have hit an all-time low (Kitroeff, 2014). However, my new supervisor chooses to lean on her expert team rather than step out on unknown territory. She recognized the school was in a state of displacement and turmoil, and felt it was her duty to transform an institution she believes in. Unlike her predecessors, she led with a positive attitude and presumed good intent from her staff and administration. Specifically, she began her tenure by honestly analyzing her strengths, and carefully surveying the institution and her employees; she wanted toShow MoreRelatedLeadership Style And Effective Leadership Styles986 Words   |  4 PagesGroup leadership refers to the processes of leading, influencing and motivating members of a group to become highly competent in achiev ing the goals or objectives of the group (Aritz and Robyn 73). Annotated Bibliography On Juvenile Crime And Sentencing

Skip Hollandsworth candidly explores the subjects of juvenile crime and sentencing in the electronic long form newspaper article, â€Å"The Prisoner†. The purpose of the essay is to inform the reader about juvenile sentencing and to persuade the audience that there are clear problems with aspects of the U.S. prison system. The article is easily accessible to a large audience because it is online. Hollandsworth takes into account that his audience, mostly consisting of Texas Monthly readers, may already have pre-established notions about the topic, so he considers other sides while still supporting his argument. Edwin Debrow, a preteen member of the Crips, committed a murder when he was 12-years old and received a 27-year sentence through the†¦show more content†¦69). Hollandsworth’s dedication gives him credibility; he spent years on this article and a lot of time with Debrow. Hollandsworth clearly knows Debrow’s life, information about the Determinate S entencing Act, studies done on young adults in prison, and historical context. â€Å"But the eighties had witnessed a sharp increase in juvenile crime, which was blamed largely on gangs and the explosion of crack cocaine. Citizens had been demanding that kids who committed adult crimes be given adult time† (para. 28). Hollandsworth provides background information to further his credibility and the reader’s understanding of the Determinate Sentencing Act. Mainly, Hollandsworth makes his appeal to ethos through time spent with Debrow and his extensive knowledge of the topic. The article displays an appeal to credibility through detailed accounts of Debrow’s life, yet there is also careful consideration to elicit specific emotions throughout the text. Hollandsworth makes a prominent appeal to pathos through literary devices and specific use of detail. â€Å"The night of the robbery, Edwin drank Thunderbird wine mixed with grape Kool-Aid† (para. 23). This is an example of selective use of detail and literary devices together; he juxtaposes the crime and Thunderbird with the nostalgic and childlike connotation of grape Kool-Aid. Hollandsworth constantly reminds the reader that Debrow was 12, even though he may seem to be so hardened and already involved with a gang, crime,Show MoreRelatedAnnotated Bibliography On Juvenile Offenders950 Words   |  4 PagesAnnotated Bibliography 1. buy custom The Prophetic Call of the Prophets essay

buy custom The Prophetic Call of the Prophets essay There are several definitions of a prophet. Several people have applied the term in various occasions to refer to an individual who has the ability to foresee the future. It should be noted that a prophet means more than just an individual, who can foresee future happenings. A prophet is defined as someone who talks for God. It is an individual who has divine inspiration and relays messages of God to people. It is an individual who has the ability to stand in place of God and report the message from God. They are an example of holiness, scholarship and nearness to the Divine Being. They set principles for the entire community to base their acts upon. Various communities worldwide have various terms that they use to refer to a prophet. In Hebrew, for example, the term navi stands in for prophet. It is a term derived from the word niv, which means the fruit of the lips. This term is used to place the emphasis on the role of a prophet as a speaker who has a role of communicating message s from God to people. According to the Talmud teachings, there were thousands of prophets in the Old Testament. These prophets reported messages that were meant for their generations and that is the reason why they were not put in the Scriptures. Prophets of God came from different generations. It was a field where any individual with a calling would take up the task. It was neither reserved for males or females, Jews or gentiles, but it was for all. It is evident that prophetic ministry was reserved for people who have attained a certain spiritual level where the divine spirit comes upon an individual. After when Adam and Eve who were created by God and placed in the Garden of Eden went against the Lords commands, they were thrown out of the Garden of Eden. God saw that it was necessary to establish a plan of salvation of mankind. He saw that since the contact between Him and Adam was broken, He considered having prophets to speak to the people on his behalf about repentance. Prophets are called by God; they are called in different ways to prepare them for a ministry ahead. Calling of Prophets Long Ago and Today Leading Gods people is not an act to be considered a vacation, and it cannot be completed through the strength and expertise of an individual. The great prophets that existed in history did not campaign to be chosen as prophets. They got the position either from God, the community or through the situations that they underwent, which made them to seek for Gods intervention. Among the renowned figures of the Old Testament like David, Solomon and Joseph among others, together with the New Testament figures like Peter or Paul, there is none of them who had or who showed the capability of becoming a great leader. The Bible attributes the success of these great personalities to their ability to honour Gods word, Gods presence in their lives, and their firm belief in God. It does not mention the role of their personal charisma in attaining these great heights. In examining various narratives, it is extraordinary how God chooses those whom He wants to use in His service to the world. He goes beyond the accepted situations to pick his prophets. He called David, the youngest child, Deborah, a woman, Abraham, rootless Aramean who lived among polytheists, Jacob, a scheming con artist, Gideon, a stupid man, Peter, a down to earth fisherman whose task was to transform a be a fisher of men, Mary, a village girl who lived in a remote country. These extra ordinary situations reflect the extraordinary situations when Jesus was born. He is the king of the whole world, but he was born to poor parents in a manger. In the book of Zechariah, Chapter 4, a prophet confirms to Zerubbabel about how God works. He points out that it is not an individuals power, or strength, but only by the spirit of God that a chosen leader is able to carry out Gods mission. This utterance confirms the fact that most of Gods prophets are not powerful in the society. They are en dowed with the spirit of God that will give them strength to do Gods will. Most prophets when called by God, first object the calling citing their inabilities. They view the task as powerful for them and hence humble themselves before the occupation. The call to be Gods spokesperson is very hard to accept. It is hard to accept to be anointed by God so as to communicate to the people what the Lord has said. God may show this calling through various signs ahead of time but very few people realize it. Most of the prophets of God in the Bible are ostracized. After accepting a call to speak they struggle to fulfil this calling. The need to speak burns within them, but the hard task lies in the act of speaking it to people who do not recognize you or the word that you are trying to bring forth. Gods call for people to be prophets has been continuous. It started in the Old Testament after the creation of the world until today. Isaiah was called to be a prophet in a dramatic way. His call came in the form of various visions, which can be grouped into four. First, there is a vision of holiness recorded in the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 6. It was in the year when Uzziah died, when he saw a vision of the Lord seated on the throne, praised and exalted and his attire filled the temple. There were a group of seraphs above him who were calling each other holy, holy. The sound of their voices made the doors to shake and the temple of the Lord was filled with smoke. The second vision that Isaiah saw, was one of his own sinfulness. He cried that he was ruined as he was a man of unclean lips who is living among the sinners yet his eyes saw the Lord. The third vision that he saw was that of grace. He foresaw one of the seraphs flow to him with coal, which he was holding with tongs from the altar of the Lord. He touched his mouth with it and mentioned that with this act the guilt has been taken away. Here his sin was taken away. The last vision that he witnessed was that of being sent. He saw the Lord asking for whom he would send to communicate his point to the nation, and he replied that he was ready to be used by God. Jeremiahs call came as a specific word from God when he was still very young. The Lord spoke to Jeremiah saying that even before he was formed in the womb God knew him; he was already set aside for the purpose of Gods will. He was appointed as a prophet for the nations. He gave excuses citing his childhood and his inability to speak. The Lord told him that despite his childhood nature he was to take up Gods calling and take Gods message to any person that the Lord sends him to. He was assured that he should not be afraid since God is with him and will always rescue him. The Lord reached his mouth with his hand confirming that he has placed a message in his mouth. His mission was over the kingdoms and nations to uproot and bring down, to destroy and overthrow, together with to construct and plant. Amos on the other hand was called while he was undertaking his daily business. He does not hail from a prophetic family and did not have an ambition of taking up prophetic ministry. He knew that being a prophet can be dangerous. He was ordered by Amaziah to go back to the land of Judah to work and get his daily bread there. He was ordered not to prophesy in the kings temple anymore. Amos answered that he was neither a prophet nor a prophets son. His main task in the kings palace was that of a shepherd and tender of sycamore trees. The Lord took him from tending the sheep and commanded him to go and speak Gods word to the people of Israel. Hoseas call to speak for God came through his own personal experience. God ordered him to go and marry a prostitute. This act was evil according to the Christians in the Old Testament. The prostitute abandons him after some time, but when she came back to him, he welcomed her back. The prophetic message of Hosea was that of forgiveness and repentance. It was a sign that the nation of Israel was sinful. It was signified by the prostitute, but Hosea who signified the Lord, was ready to welcome her back if only she repents. The message of Hosea was then that of repentance. Ezekiel was called to prophecies to the exiles in Babylon. He sees various strange occurrences taking place. First, he is taken to Jerusalem through a touch of his hair, and he is hown the level of sinfulness of the nation of Israel, here, the Lord had no mercy on the house of Israel, and they were all destroyed. He is also shown a valley of dead bones, which are then ordered back to life. These messages from Ezekiel were relevant to the group of people that he prophesised to. They were in exile and were hoping that the Lord will come and deliver them. The message that Ezekiel delivered to the house of Israel in exile was that of suffering and hope. Jeremiah was appointed to be a spiritualist long before he was born. The Lord says that He formed Jeremiah and set him apart for his task. He was Gods choice having been appointed the prophet of nations. Jeremiah objected this call citing his weaknesses. He mentions timidity and his youthful nature as his weaknesses. The Lord assured Jeremiah that He has appointed him and will use him for his task. Jeremiah was then made a prophet over all nations. He was a prophet at the time of the fall of Jerusalem and its period of exile. He prophesied about Gods covenant that it was not going to be carried around in the ark, but rather it will be written in peoples hearts. He also chooses both the young and the old. There are some prophets who were chosen long before they were born, for example, Jeremiah, while others were picked when they were already mature, for example, Moses. He was called when he was looking after the sheep of his father-in-law. A call to be a prophet is from God. It is God who makes a choice of whom He wants to use to speak for Him. He can call any individual. There is no time that a chosen person is given to prepare to take up Gods call. He picks His prophets from various places - it can be in the city or in the village, He chooses either the rich or the poor, evident in the fact when He chose Ezekiel who was from a priestly family, and He also chose Amos who was a shepherd and a tender of sycamore trees in a kings palace. There are various structures that are followed when one is called to be Gods prophet. First, there is a situation of distress or calamity where God meets an individual. Secondly, the individual is commissioned for a task to resolve the calamity. He or she is given a message to act on accordingly. Thirdly, individuals object Gods call citing their inadequacies for the task ahead or how unprepared and unreliable they are to face the task. Fourthly, God gives him or her assurance that He is with the individual when handing the task. It is an assurance that the task ahead is not the battle for the individual, but it is for God through him or her and, therefore, it is crucial to wait for Gods message in every circumstance. Lastly, there is a sign to confirm that the message is from the almighty. Various individuals are called through similar circumstances today. Prophetic Messages The prophets were speaking for God. They communicated the message from God to people. There are various prophetic messages that were communicated and are still communicated by Gods prophets. First, a prophetic message may be meant to warn people against the impending danger. When God foresees the danger that is awaiting the children of God, he sends his prophets to warn people and tell the necessary precautions. The main task of Joel as a prophet was to warn people on the damage that would befall the earth. In the book of Joel, there are various versions of how the earth would be destroyed. There is an image that shows God sending a very strong army to fight the earth and people are not able to counter this attack. Joel tells the people what that day will be like. Joel interrupts this prediction by prophesying that, before this time comes, God will bring His salvation for the people. He then warns that whoever will not be saved, when this time comes, will face the full wrath. Some prophets deliver the messages on the process of salvation. Isaiah in his prophecy seeks to tell the people what they can do to be saved. The content of Isaiahs prophecy shows this process of saving the mankind. First, he says that God is there and that people should give him praise because of his righteousness. He tells people that they should repent and come back to God. He prophesies coming of the messiah whose main task is to save the entire nation. He prophesies that Israel, which is a chosen people of God, will go against the will of God. They will be punished and taken captives because of their sins. He then points out the sins of the nation of Israel as the Lord views. He also points out that the Lord will bring judgement on the whole world when the Day of the Lord comes. He also says that in the midst of judgement, God who is gracious will extend the hand of mercy, which implies that there will be a second exodus where people will be freed from captivity. He proclaims to the people that the good news that comes out of this prophecy is that there will be the salvation. Some prophetic messages are meant for repentance. They are meant to teach the entire nation of the importance of forgiveness and repentance. Jonahs prophecy over the nation is that of repentance. It is evident from his call that he was afraid of God because of his own sinful nature. On hearing Gods call, he decided to run away, but was swallowed by a whale because of his disobedience. Jonah then goes to Nineveh where he warns people against disobeying Gods commands and repenting. He was amazed by the way the people heed his message and repented. The main message of Jonah here is that of repentance at the first instant. Another prophet that communicated a message of repentance to the nation was prophet Hosea. His prophecy came through his act of getting married to a prostitute who flees from him and later comes back to him. The prostitute was used to stand for the chosen people of God who have abandoned him. If they return, God is ready to take them back. Characteristics of Called Prophets In the society today, there are various categories of prophets who do not necessarily speak for God. This group of prophets are self proclaimed and use the word of knowledge and consider it as prophetic. Many people can receive a word of knowledge from God, but the call to speak for God is mostly for making people ready for success in the spiritual world revealing the level that we have reached in the spirit. All people have the ability to prophesy over their lives. In 1st Corinthians, a person can prophesy by faith. Ephesians, Chapter 4, reveals the fact that we all have the Holy Spirit from God and therefore, we are able to make a prophecy over our lives. There are, therefore, various characteristics that are used to separate a prophet who has been send to the people by God. Gods prophets are obedient to Gods call. When Moses was called, he was obedient to the call. He was ordered to take off his shoes as he was standing on a holy ground - a call that he obeyed. Almost all prophets of God are rejected by the people whom God sends him or her to speak. Jesus himself being the son of God was rejected by the people that he came to serve. Moses was also rejected by the people of Israel. The main reason for the rejection of prophets is that before they are called to the service of God, they are found in situations where they do not deserve any respect. Moses before his call to prophet-hood was a shepherd. When God chooses him for his service, many asked him if he thought he was to be a ruler over them according to Acts, Chapter 7. He used the signs that the Lord gave him to prove that he had really been sent by God to the people. Jesus at the same time had to perform various miracles to confirm that he was the son of God. All prophets were sent to the people by God. This is shown by the facts that assert that they have been sent from God. Their messages also show this. They often use such terms as it was said the Lord and lay a stress on the source of their teachings. When you read their messages or their scriptures, there is an evident aspect of inspiration from God. The messages from True Prophets are linked to historical events. It emerges from a certain historical occurrence that happened in their lifetime. The prophets are messengers that are meant to address the events happening during their period. Messages of true prophets are not always predictive. It is not accurate to believe that thhe Old Testament prophecies always foretell the future. There are times in the Old Testament when a prophet communicated Gods message only to his generation without necessarily referring to the future. The prophets task is to call the people of his generation to repent or to transform socially or politically. They gave warnings to the people or to their leaders of the acts of disobedience or other acts of sinful nature, which needed to be corrected. They are acting as Gods spokesmen, whether they talk of what is happening today, what happened in the past or what will come in the future. Examples of Prophets Called by God Moses is the greatest of all the prophets that are mentioned in the Old Testament. He foresaw the Torah, which means that he predicted the writings and the prophecies contained in the Old Testament prophetic books. What is told in the prophetic books is what Moses knew through Torah. Moses was selected by the Deity to lead the children of Israel from Egypt where they were undergoing suffering. The situation when Moses was called to speak for God was that of suffering of the children of Israel. God had heard the cry of the Israelites in slavery and was looking for a prophet to confront this situation. The Bible tells that Moses fulfilled the role that the Lord called him for, and there has never been a prophet that can be compared to him. He is the only prophet who was able to be in touch with God face to face, according to Deuteronomy, Chapter 34. He received Gods call while taking care of the sheep. The act of herding the sheep shows his unpreparedness for the task. Moses tried to g ive excuses for his inability to carry out the task, but he was not able to go out of Gods will. It is evident from the call of Moses that God commands respect from those that He calls upon to carry on the task of Gods spokesman. He first commands Moses to remove his shoes before going to the holy place where God dwells. Moses obeyed this command, and God was pleased with the act of obedience that Moses showed before God. God appeared to Moses in an unfamiliar situation that attracted him. He saw a burning bush that was not consumed. As a herdsman, he decided to move closer to get a lucid outlook of what was happening within the bush. As he got closer to the bush, he heard the voice of God calling him. The prophets of the Old Testament are categorized into two groups, the early and latter prophets. The books of Joshua, Judges, Samuel and Kings are referred to as early prophets. This is because they contain many prophets that lived there in ancient Israel. These prophets testified Gods messages during the early days. The other category of prophets is the latter prophets. They fell in Israel at the time that is very crucial in human history, when the Israelites had strayed from the teachings given by the Law of Moses. There were high levels of corruption in the society and other wicked ways that distorted the social life of Israel. The faithful people of Israel feared the anger of the Lord that might be thrust upon them. The call of the righteous to the society was ignored. There prophets emerged at this time who were speaking against the acts of wickedness in the nation of Israel. Some of the latter prophets include Joel, Micah, Isaiah, Habakkuk, and Zephaniah among other prophets. Their messages were directed to the nation of Israel, equally in the North and South. The latter prophets are grouped into the Major and Minor Prophets. Some of the Major Prophets include Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. The group, which formed the Minor Prophets, include Amos, Micah, Hosea, Zephaniah, and Habakkuk among others. While all other prophets are found in the Old Testament, Revelation is found in the New Testament. It prophesies about the coming of a day that will purify the priesthood and destroy the wicked while securing the victory for the righteous. Then there are modern prophets as well, who claim to have been called by God for a mission. Do We Need Prophets Today? There are people who speak for God in the society today. These people refer their work to the verse in the Book of Acts that states that on the last days God will pour out his spirit that will give all people whether young or old the power to prophesy and speak in different languages. However, these people do not function like the prophets of the Old Testament. It is in this instance that many people have emerged to be prophets. They prophesy not in the name of God. The emergence of false prophets is in accordance to the teachings in the Bible where in the book of Mathew people are warned against false prophets. According to the Gospel of Mathew, these prophets come to you while dressed in sheeps robes but the fact is that they are wolves. According to Mathew 24, it is recorded that there will be many false prophets. There are few churches that have an office of prophets and apostles. Other groups like evangelists, pastors and teachers are found in almost all churches in the society today. In the church today the fivefold ministry has been regarded as significant in carrying out the churchs ministry. In Ephesians, it is stated that the church requires the fivefold gift, which was given to the church by Jesus Christ to perfect its ministry. Getting into the ministry of prophet-hood means a lot to an individual. It involves so many sacrifices on the part of an individual. One may be putting his or her life at stake by taking up prophet-hood. Prophets do not take into thoughtfulness the rank of education, the place they are in or how people will feel when a certain message is given. They utter the Lords message without putting into consideration any individual or a system in operation such as the government. Various people claim to be God sent in the society today. Some of these people proclaim that they are prophets and they at times strengthen this claim through the use of signs, wonders and miracles. These wonders and signs are used in an effort to show the fivefold ministry in the New Testament. The availability of prophets today is attributed to the power that the church today needs to carry on its task. Those who claim to be prophets today try to copy what the well known prophets in the Bible did. It is the essential for the church today to be aware of how the institution of prophet-hood was passed over from God to the early prophets so that they can be capable to make a distinction between true prophets and false prophets. The office of prophet-hood in the church today is questionable. According to Ephesians, Chapter 2, the prophets were tasked on laying the foundation of the church. If this then is the major task of the prophets, then the question is whether people in the society today are still laying the foundation for the church? The prophet also was a linkage between God and the people in the early church. Moses for example, was a link between the Israelites and God. He took the pleas of the Israelites to God. Today, people take their requests to God in person. When Jesus Christ was ascending to Heaven, he told the disciples that he had left the Holy Spirit, which will act as a guide to the people. There was no mention of a prophet left to act as a link between himself and the people. This fact also questions the nature of the prophets who claim that they are from God today. Some of the prophetic messages were foretelling the future. During these times, the Bible was not complete. Some Christians were not able to access the Bible. Conclusion The call to be a spiritualist hails from God. It is crucial to heed the call and act according to Gods commands. God who has power over nature has an ability to use extraordinary events to call people for His task. He used a burning bush to call Moses. Whereby the bush was burning but it was not consumed. He also showed extraordinary visions to the prophets in order to confirm His authority and His command to speak on His behalf. The call of prophets in the Old Testament showed the compassionate nature of God. He was ready and willing to forgive and take back the sinful population. He gave people a second chance to repent. The use of prophets shows us that God is concerned with the human race. He wants to establish a link between Himself and the people. This is so that He may be able to converse with mankind and express His concerns. Buy custom The Prophetic Call of the Prophets essay
